One of Matís' location is in Egilsstadir, in the Eastern part of Iceland. This location goes under the name of the Food Centre of Eastern Iceland (FCEI). FCEI was established in autumn 2009 and is a co-operation between Matis, Development East, Fljótsdalshérað, Búnaðarfélags Austurlands and Auðumbla. The unit is in the old Dairy hall but MS (Mjólkursamsalan) has production elsewhere in the house. One expert is there full time. The focus of operations is the development of small scale food from the region.

The Food Centre offers entrepreneurs and small businesses the opportunity to engage in product development and start small scale food production for a nominal rental fee. So they save their investment in expensive equipment, right from the beginning of operations. This is a unique opportunity to experiment with both production and market. Special emphasis is on development in relation to local foods and food tourism.

The facilities are intended for use at national level. Prerequisite to access the facilities to buy advice on good manufacturing practices in the beginning. This way, users will learn the right approach from the start. With it's facility, the food centre offers a unique opportunity to

small scale innovation in food.
