The division emphasizes on developing more efficient detection and monitoring methods of food pathogens and their diversity and dispersion to educate and promote improved safety measures in regards to Icelandic produce. The division conducts various local and European projects connected to research related to pathogenic diseases. These projects emphasize the development of new testing and monitoring methods and the improved knowledge of what pathogens are to be found in the
food-processing environment. Research on the effects microorganisms have on the storage of food and type-analysis of pathogens are also conducted.
The specialists who work within the division have extensive knowledge in: Microbial research, food safety, biotechnology, genetics and more.
