Matis offers analysis of microbial species composition of environmental samples. No cultivating is needed. By this method we can determine the species composition of a mixed sample from seawater, freshwater, affluents, soil, biomass etc. We can monitor changes of species composition, trace microbial contamination etc.

The analysis includes isolation of biomass from the sample, DNA isolation, amplification (PCR) of the 16S rRNA gene, cloning and partial sequencing (>500bp) using an ABI3730 sequencher. The sequences are compared to known sequences in Genbank which identifies the closest relatives. Sequencing of 50-100 clones should give a comprehensive picture of the real species composition of the sample.
