The biosphere in good shape in Icelandic territorial waters

According to the results of a new Matís-report there are apparently no obvious changes in contaminant concentrations pattern seen in previous years. The report, titled Monitoring of the marine biosphere around Iceland in 2005 - 2006, contains the results of an evaluation of trace elements in Icelandic marine biota for the years 2005 and 2006.

New lighting technology improve the growth rate of farmed cod

The advent of a new lighting technology based on Cold Cathode Light Tubes enables fish farmers to improve the growth rate of farmed cod significantly. Scientists at The Icelandic food research company MATIS say that results after one production cycle indicates that using this technology can possibly delay or suppress the maturation of farmed cod.
