Network on Marine Ecosystem modelling
The main objective of this project is to establish a network of scientists with expertise in the field of ecosystem modelling to design the project and write proposals for its funding. The network will contribute to the design of a project on Marine Ecosystem Modelling in the North Atlantic to compare the performance of four state-of-the-art modelling approaches aimed at improving ecosystem-based management of marine living resources and to write project funding proposals to national, Nordic and international funds. The need for the project was stressed at the North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission (NAMMCO) Council meeting in the 2009, where the Council endorsed, with highest priority, the proposed plan of its Scientific Committee (SC) to run a two year research programme using several different approaches of ecosystem modelling in one or two areas in the Northeast Atlantic (Barents Sea and possibly also Iceland).
