Shortening the growing time of blue mussels on long-lines

The aim of the project:
a. To develop a method for the cultivation of mussels on lines in the sea which will yield an harvest at least a year sooner than the traditional breeding methods.
b. Evaluate the effectiveness and ability to cultivate mussels by comparing growth and survival in three breeding areas in the country
c. To evaluate the stocksize and recruitment capacity in the experimental area located in Hvalfirði, Iceland.
d. To evaluate the uptake of cadmium in mussels after relocation and cultivation.
