Ichthyophonus hoferi infedtion in herring and other fish species
The aim of this project is to setup a simple diagnostic PCR method to detect Ichthyophonus hoferi germs in infected fish. Is there a difference between the Ichthyophonus Hofer pathogens which infects herring and the pathogen which infects plaice? The researchers will also investigate whether the Ichthyophonus Hofer found in cod has been infected by eating infected herring. If Ichthyophonus Hofer is diagnosed in cod then the flesh will be investigated to determine whether the pathogen is also located there.
