Microbiological and chemical studies
Since 1994 the European Union (93/99/EEC) requires all measurements to be carried out by accredited parties. This provision was adopted in Iceland's regulation no. 522/1994.
When applying for accreditation, the applicant is subjected to detailed examination and must meet various requirements relating to equipment, premises, staff and last but not least, in the field of internal control for quality. This ensures that measurements are always performed by qualified persons, where professionalism is maintained.
It is SWEDAC in Sweden, along with Icelandic authorities, that inspect Matís annually.

DNA expertice
Matis is a leading company in sequence-based discovery and screening of natural diversity from extreme environments. Its proprietary methods enable rapid and very cost-effective discovery and development. The combination of proprietary ecological enrichment methods and bioinformatics tools allow an access to over 90% of rare and uncultivated organisms that cannot be exploited with conventional methods. The company focuses on diagnostics, food & feed, technical enzymes and chiral synthesis and has a large pipeline of promising candidate enzymes.
As part of our environmental DNA expertice we offer analysis of species composition of uncultivated microbes, bacteria and eucaryotes in any sample, bacterial identification service, DNA sequencing, as well as tracing and general genotyping service of fish and animals.
Information on Matís' various services and expertise in the field of DNA research can be found on the left hand side of this page.
